Puppies and kittens in New Zealand: first-year parasite timeline

    Introduction

The first year sets your routine. Growth is rapid, schedules change and families are busy. Keep prevention simple, size correctly every time and layer in a few easy home habits.

    Months 0–3: set the foundations

Book a vet check to confirm starting ages and weight bands. Many clinics use more frequent worming in the first months, then step down. Start a single house dose day so every pet is treated on the same date. Reweigh before every dose because bands change quickly.

    Months 4–6: build the rhythm

Stick to your calendar and record dates on the box. If handling is tricky, ask your vet whether a different format suits your household better. Keep bedding clean and dry and vacuum high-traffic rooms each week.

    Months 7–12: keep it steady

By now your routine should feel automatic. Maintain monthly prevention or your chosen longer-acting option and add reminders a week before due dates. If you travel or start classes, pack the next dose with clear notes.

    Simple home habits

    • Vacuum rugs and sofa seams and empty the vacuum outside

    • Hot-wash pet bedding and favourite blankets and dry thoroughly

    • Store products cool and dry and out of reach of kids

    Products we trust

Puppies and dogs (check label ages and weights)

Kittens and cats (check label ages and weights)

    Safety basics

Match species, minimum ages and current weight bands at every dose. Do not stack different preventives unless your vet advises. Keep cat spot-ons high on the neck and let them dry before cuddles.
