    Kitten parasite plan 0–6 months

    Introduction

These first months set habits for life. Keep it simple with the right schedule, the right weight band, and a short home routine. Prepared with input from our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.

    Quick schedule at a glance

    • Intestinal worms: every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age, then monthly to 6 months.

    • Heartworm prevention: start as soon as your product’s minimum age and weight allow, then keep it monthly.

    • Fleas and ticks: begin when your chosen label allows. Continue all year and check your kitten often during warm, humid weather or after travel.

    Choosing products for young kittens

    • Most kittens do best with a spot-on.

    • Match today’s weight band every time. Kittens grow fast, so re-weigh monthly.

    • Treat every pet in the home to avoid re-infestation.

    • Apply to clean, dry skin high on the neck where your kitten cannot lick.

    Home routine that helps

    • Vacuum rugs, sofas and cat trees. Empty the vacuum outside.

    • Hot wash bedding and favourite blankets. Dry thoroughly.

    • Keep going for at least three months once you start prevention so hidden stages clear.

    Missed a dose

Give it as soon as you remember and reset your reminder from that date. If you missed heartworm prevention, ask your vet whether any testing is needed before restarting.

    Safety you should always check

    • Use cat-only products on cats. Never apply a dog product to a cat.

    • Check minimum age and weight on the label before first use.

    • Do not stack different spot-ons unless your vet advises.

    • Ask your vet before dosing if your kitten is underweight or unwell.

    FAQ

    When should I start prevention
As soon as your chosen product’s minimum age and weight allow. Your vet can confirm timing at the first vaccine visit.

    Do indoor-only kittens need protection
Yes. Fleas hitchhike in and mosquitoes spread heartworm. Year-round prevention avoids flare-ups.

My kitten licked the application site
Apply high on the neck and keep the coat dry for the time on the label. Call your vet if you are concerned or if drooling persists.
