Fostering is rewarding and busy. New arrivals may bring fleas or worms, so protect your resident pets with a clear intake routine and a house-wide schedule.
Use a quiet room with hard floors if possible. Provide a bed, litter tray for cats and separate food bowls. Keep resident pets out for the first few days. Note arrival weight and date so you can choose the correct band and set reminders.
First 48 hours
Check for flea dirt with a damp tissue
Run a quick tick check after outdoor toilet breaks
Start prevention once the rescue’s plan or your vet confirms the product
Pick one dose day for every pet, resident and foster. Treat everyone on that date and record doses. Vacuum rugs and sofa seams, empty the vacuum outside, and hot wash bedding. Keep carriers and travel blankets clean and dry after vet runs.
Wash and sun-dry bedding, vacuum the intake room and reset reminders for your resident pets so gaps do not appear during changeovers.
